The Exorcist is an American supernatural horror television series created past Jeremy Slater for Play a trick on. Function of The Exorcist franchise, the series serves equally a straight sequel to the original 1973 motion-picture show and ignores the film's various sequels.[2] Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels star as a pair of exorcists who investigate cases of demonic possession.

The series premiered on September 23, 2016, and a second flavour premiered on September 29, 2017, each comprising 10 episodes.[three] [iv] After the decision of the second season, Fox canceled the series.[5]

Jeremy Slater wrote the pilot. On January 22, 2016, Fob ordered the pilot to be shot.[thirty] [31] The series is described as "a propulsive, serialized psychological thriller following two very different men tackling one family's case of horrifying demonic possession, and confronting the face of true evil."[30]

Casting [edit]

On February 24, 2016, Brianne Howey was cast every bit Katherine Rance.[32] On February 29, 2016, Hannah Kasulka was cast as Casey Rance.[33] On March 2, 2016, Alfonso Herrera and Ben Daniels were cast as Father Tomas and Father Marcus respectively.[34] [35] On March iii, 2016, Kurt Egyiawan was bandage as Father Bennett.[36] [37] On March vii, 2016, Geena Davis was cast equally Angela Rance.[37] On June 7, 2017, information technology was announced that Davis, Ruck, Kasulka and Howey would not return every bit regular cast members in the 2nd season. Trick announced that the beginning season of the show would be shot in Chicago.[44] Season two filming began July 28, 2017, in Vancouver.[45]

Critical reception [edit]

The Exorcist has received generally positive reviews from critics. Review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes gives the first season a score of 79% based on 53 reviews with an average of 6.12/10. The consensus says, "The Exorcist doesn't come close to its archetype source material, but even so boasts a tense narrative that manages some legitimate scares and credible special effects."[47] On Metacritic, the show has a weighted average of 62/100 based on 28 reviews, indicating "by and large favorable reviews."[48]

The second season received a score of 100% based on eleven reviews, with an average of 7.five/x. The consensus says, "The Exorcist continues to haunt in a more confident 2nd season, with an assured storyline and mastery over its demonic flourishes."[49]
